A chronicle of how Lyndon Johnson swept the nation but lost the south in the U.S. presidential elections of 1964. It is also the chronicle of Barry Goldwater's rise to become the conservative candidate of the Republican party normally dominated by Wall Street and politicians brought forth from them like Nelson Rockefeller. Like its predecessor "The Making Of The President 1960", this film is an analysis of the leadership capacities of the individual candidates as time and circumstance challenges them; it goes beyond politics in order to bring about an awareness of what it would be like to be in the shoes of each of the candidates in a manner both respectful and provacative. It was also nominated for an Emmy Award for "Individual Achievements in Music - Composition" for the musical score by Lalo Schifrin. Produced and Directed by Mel Stuart, Written by Theodore H. White.
