General Information

Especially created in 1996 to meet the needs of students and teachers worldwide, EarthStation1.com and its constituent websites have gained approval for teaching history and media studies by various American state, British, French and Singapore governments, as well as by museums, libraries, archives & hundreds of prestigous schools K-12, college, university & post-graduate worldwide. Much of its constituent material had never been made available to the public before they were created for and published by J. C. Kaelin. Literally hundreds of subjects are covered by the EarthStation1.com catalog, including General History, World War I, World War II, TV/Movie/Radio Broadcasting History, Documentaries, Movies, Music, Teleplays, Modern and Ancient Drama, Black/Ethnic/Civil Rights, Government, Business, Space Flight, The Cold War and much more. In many institutions of learning throughout the US - and indeed in some countries the entire nation's educational curriculum - center around materials produced by J. C. Kaelin for EarthStation1.com and its heir MediaOutlet.com.

Of these, many believe it's the World War II materials that are the "crown jewels" of J. C.'s digitations, many of which adorn such documentary classics as the landmark epic TV documentary series THE WAR directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick and distributed by Florentine Films, the PBS documentary series HISTORY DETECTIVES, the History Channel's WWII IN HD and more besides. With thousands of sound, still and moving image documents from both sides of that great conflict, it's become by merit of the love & effort that went into it one of the foremost Second World War media publishing sites on the internet.

The historical multimedia productions produced by J. C. Kaelin have been created, remastered and enhanced to provide the highest quality digitations possible. Great care has been taken to obtain the highest quality original media possible from museums, archives, libraries and private collections worldwide. Many hours have been spent on some single files, while others have taken weeks or even months to create. The especial results of these efforts have been the development of a number of digitizing processes - audio, video and imaging - which produce media of superior resolution than those made using traditional methods.

J. C. Kaelin is the pioneer of historical multimedia on the internet. Recovering from crippling case of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome that disabled him for a decade, Jim Kaelin began to make historical sound files for his own amusement, to share with others on the net and to give what little he could back to society in 1995, when he discovered that there were so few online. He became thereby the most archived sound digitizer on the internet, beginning when he created NASA's online Apollo 11 sound site, a collection which was quickly "mirrored" by over 100 websites worldwide within weeks of its release. Encouraged by this, in March 1996 he created the EarthStation1! website as a means by which to resume his duties as a contributing member of society. It immediately became the first and foremost historical sound & image archive on the internet, featuring his original audio, video and image digitations. Based on the website's success, he took the courage of his convictions, volunteered off of disability and made the operation of EarthStation1 his chosen profession.

In June of 2001, J. C. Kaelin found that his website's contents were appearing on CD-ROMs for sale on eBay and elsewhere without either his knowledge or permission. He decided he could do a better job of it, so in July 2001 he began producing and publishing his own digitations made from his awesome audio/visual library through his EarthStation1.com Multimedia website. It became an even more successful enterprise than the original website, and helped secure J. C. Kaelin's reputation as a businessman, digital editor and media archivist.

In September 2008, that successful concern evolved into MediaOutlet.com, a comprehensive media production and publishing company still owned and operated by J. C. Kaelin.

February 6, 1961: #BOTD: J. C. Kaelin, digital producer, editor, archivist and publisher, founder of the world's first dedicated world wide web (WWW) historical digital audio, video and image website on March 26, 1996, EarthStation1.com, founder of MediaOutlet.com on that same date, as well as a number of other web enterprises, who collaborated in a number of documentary productions such as the landmark World War II documentary series THE WAR THE WAR by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, HISTORY DETECTIVES, The History Channel's WORLD WAR II IN HD, UNSEALED ALIEN FILES, UNSEALED CONSPIRACY FILES and the 2015 NHK TV documentary THE STORY OF "TOKYO ROSE", featured on broadcast television and cable documentary networks such as PBS, The History Channel, The BBC, CNN, The Discovery Channel, Fox, The Learning Channel, A & E, NHK, Asahi TV, Altice (formerly Suburban Cablevision) and more, as well as in movies, radio, books, newspapers and magazines, exhibited and archived in museums and libraries around the world such as The British Library and The British Museum, part of the New York Regents Examinations for many years, archived at colleges and universities worldwide such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Brown, UCLA, University Of Maryland, Oxford, Cambridge and more, approved for teaching history and media studies by various American state, British, French and Singapore governments, as well as hundreds of prestigious schools K-12, college, university and post-graduate worldwide since 1996, cited by the Israeli Knesset and by the Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Center as an approved academic resource for information about the Holocaust, is #born James Charles Kaelin, Jr. in Jamaica, Queens, New York City at the dawn of The Space Age, during the honeymoon period of the Kennedy presidency.

"For Customers Who Purchased A Download:

A separate email with download instructions will be sent to you within 24-48 hours. *You MUST check your spam folder if you do not receive your download link email by that time* in order to ensure that you have received it. *The download link(s) will expire automatically within three (3) days of the email being sent* so you must be certain to check your email spam folder as well as your email inbox before then. *It is YOUR responsibility to download your order before then -- downloads WILL NOT be available after the links expire, and they WILL NOT be resent after they expire - so *be certain you follow these instructions carefully!*

*For All Customers: How To Ensure You Receive Download Link Or Shipment Notification Emails:*
Just add us to your approved sender list by whatever method your email service provider uses so that it does not end up in your "Spam" or "Junk" email folder instead of your inbox. If our email does end up in your "Spam" or "Junk" folder, please make sure that you mark the message "Not Spam" and add the "From" sender name MediaOutlet.com" (our parent website) to your approved sender list so that you can be certain that future such emails or our replies to your customer service messages will be successfully received. Thanks!"

Further, to quote from the download link email we sent you:

*These links will be active for the next three (3) days from the date of this email, after which the links will expire automatically - so be certain to download these files before the three (3) days elapse.*

It is *imperative* that when dealing with a small online company that you *always* check your spam folder to make *certain* that you get their emails, as email service providers such as yours routinely spam filter such emails sent from all but the largest online companies.

This way, you can always get our download link notification emails and all other emails :) .

"Does an MP3 CD play on a cd player?"

As explained on the inside cover of the title, an MP3 CD will play on your computer using any MP3 player program (such as WinAmp or iTunes), on many standard CD players and DVD players of recent manufacture (make sure yours is one before playing it), and on any home or portable MP3 player system (such as an iPod) that its contents are exported to. With your MP3 player, you can use it to play every mp3 on this disc through your PC speakers (which is the way most folks play them). Also, you can always easily record these MP3s onto audio cassette tapes or burn them onto regular audio CDs & play them in your home or car stereo, boombox, entertainment system & more.

"What is an MP3 DVD? (as distinguished from an MP3 CD)"

As explained on the inside cover of the title, an MP3 DVD is especially designed to play on your computer's DVD drive using any MP3 player program (such as WinAmp or iTunes) and on any home or portable MP3 player system (such as an iPod) that its contents are exported to. It also plays on MP3 compatible DVD players of recent manufacture (make sure yours is one before playing it). With your MP3 player, you can play every MP3 on this disc through your PC speakers (which is the way most folks play them). If indeed you are able to play MP3 DVDs otherwise, the particular DVD drive you are using may not be DVD+R compatible, which is the disc stock this was burned onto. You can also try playing a DVD laser lens cleaner disc and see if cleaning the lens eliminates the problem (it very often is the problem!). The best bet would be to try the DVD on a PC DVD drive. Also, you can always easily record these MP3s onto audio cassette tapes or burn them onto regular audio CDs & play them in your home or car stereo, boombox, entertainment system & more.

"I can't play this DVD Video / DVD-ROM on my DVD player"

The particular DVD drive you are using may not be compatible with DVD+R or Dual Layer DVD formats, which are the highest quality disc stocks available. The best remedy would be to a) play your dvd on a player of more recent manufacture, since all new standalone DVD players and all new computer DVD drives can easily play both the DVD+R and Dual Layer DVD formats, or b) in the case of an older computer DVD drive, update your drive's firmware by downloading the latest firmware update for your drive from the drive manufacturer's website. If indeed you are able to play either DVD+R or Dual Layer discs otherwise and are still experiencing problems playing it, you can try playing a DVD laser lens cleaner disc and see if cleaning the lens eliminates the problem (it very often is the problem!).

"Can I place an order by telephone or by mail?"

All business is conducted through our website only. We do not accept orders by telephone or by mail at this time.

"Why don't you use PayPal?"

Paypal is great, but we do not use them to process payments because are also a competitor, with their own preferred vendors whom they advertise during the PayPal checkout process, and therefore we do not wish to share with them our customer's private information such as their names, email addresses or shopping preferences. That's why other ecommerce sites such as Amazon do not use them to process their payments :) .

"Can I call customer service?"

As mentioned above, all business is conducted through our website only. We do not offer customer support by telephone at this time.

"I've read negative reviews about EarthStation1.com online, how can I know that I can trust you?"

Of the remarkably few complaints that are listed online about us, about half of which involve products we don't sell and therefore aren't meant to be about our company (click here to learn more), experience has shown that to read an online review about an online merchant is in fact to read a negative review, because that's how the internet is; for all the many thousands of happy transactions we have conducted regularly for nearly a generation, to have had so few people go to the trouble of complaining about you online is not a measure of how bad a business is, but rather a measure of how few of the bad apples in this world believe they have any cause to make trouble for you :) .

Indeed, we were on Facebook for a long time, and that was one place online (besides the very many web pages that link to us) where we had lots & lots of really kind comments that really did make us blush. We left Facebook once they went corporate and began showing ads from our competitors to our Facebook page visitors, among the usual other things that bloggers have been on about regarding Facebook privacy, etc.. We have a great family of customers we've had since practically when the World Wide Web began in 1996, and we hope that you'll find many great reasons to choose to be one among us, too :) .

Starting in 2010-2011, and growing at an accelerated rate into 2012, there has unfortunately been a growing number of boiler plate copy and paste websites that generate phony complaints about merchant websites in general and small business merchant websites in particular, such as EarthStation1.com (you can learn more about these phony complaints and the websites that feature them at Reputation911.com). Most often, the complaints they make are about products the merchants complained of don't even sell, and the remainder are simply mirrored, scraped content from other similar so-called complaint websites, as has happened all to often both to EarthStation1.com and other honest small business websites worldwide. All of this is part of a much larger pattern of a general attack on small business websites, and it enlists some of the darkest elements of both the spammer and hacker communities to make these scurrilous attacks.

We at EarthStation1.com and our sister website MediaOutlet.com choose to hold our heads high above all this, as we've been online for as long as the web itself has been, and we have survived successfully by a strict adherence to our principles while thousands of websites have gone down by having little or any. These spammer/scammer scurrilous complaint websites will ultimately go the same way as all the others, and we'll be glad to meet you, our good and honest EarthStation1.com customers, along the way on the road to that good end :) .
