THE RUNNING JUMPING & STANDING STILL FILM (Black/White, 1959, 10:43)
A plotless, dialogueless "home movie" short, shot with the great Peter Seller's own hand-held comera and a budget of 70 Pounds Sterling, whose stream-of-conciousness collage of sight-gags and unconventional goofiness unintentionally went on to define British humor for an entire generation. It was nominated for an Academy Award, and was a favourite of The Beatles, which led to Lester's being hired to direct "A Hard Day's Night" and then "Help!".
Direction: Dick Lester, Peter Sellers. Production:: Peter Sellers. Writers: Richard Lester, Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers. Cast: Richard Lester, Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan. Mario Fabrizi. David Lodge, Leo McKern, Graham Stark.
THE CASE OF THE MUKKINESE BATTLE-HORN (Black/White, 1956, 28:17)
Filmed in 'Schizophrenoscope' ("The New Split-Screen"), another exceedlingly rare film featuring the comic geniuses of "Goonies" Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan in an adaptation of a beloved "Goon Show" radio series episode. One can at once perceive the on-screen magic that each of them was to wield to such great success in years to come - for Peter Sellers, on the big screen, in his legendary "Pink Panther" and other movie comedies - for Milligan, the broadcast television screen that was to host the landmark mid-1960s "Q" series that extended the boundaries of television to limits that still remain in place to this day.
Direction: Joseph Sterling. Production:: Harry Booth, Michael Deeley, Jon Penington. Writers: Harry Booth, Spike Milligan, Jon Penington, Peter Sellers, Larry Stephens. Cast: Peter Sellers - Narrator, Superintendant Quilt, Assistant Commissioner Sir Jervis Fruit, Henry Crun. Spike Milligan - Eccles. Dick Emery - Mr. Nodule. Also starring Pamela Thomas, Bill Hepper, Wally Thomas, Gordon Phillott.
