Is Astrology real? 186 leading scientists signed their names to a public statement objecting to the belief in it, one of whom appears in the course of this installment of the BBC TV series Horizon which sought initially to agree with these scientists. In the course of this production, however, they came upon the results of an experiment that conclusively linked the position of Saturn in the astrological charts of (fittingly) leading scientists, Mars in those of leading athletes, and Jupiter in those of leading actors. This phenomenon, known as the Gauguelin Effect after its discoverers Michel and Francoise Gauguelin, found that those who had the aforementioned planets located in what Astrology calls the 12th, 9th, 6th and 3rd Houses respectively, or the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th sections of the 12 sectored sky beginning at the eastern horizon, were far more likely to excel in the fields that planet Astrologically ruled over. These sectors become known as the Gaugelin Sectors, ironic when it is understood that the Gaugelins, too, had initially sought to disprove Astrology and had never expected their names to be lent to one of its most supportive practices. Committees and investigative bodies were formed to disprove them too; most replicated their results, and those that didn't had loud opposition from those within their ranks who despite themselves not believing or not wanting to believe in Astrology were nonetheless asserting that their body's work proved the Gaugelins right and that efforts were being made to distort or disguise these findings. You the be judge in this fascinating contest between all these disbelievers who line up with those believing disbelievers on the one side and the disbelieving disbelievers on the other, and as you watch, remember: the body of evidence is, no matter how hard anyone might try, actually on the side of those that believe.
